FAQ:

how does volunteering work?

  • We host groups of volunteers Tuesdays and Thursdays 2 pm-4 pm.

  • We can host a maximum of 25 volunteers. If your team is larger than 25, we can reserve multiple sessions.

  • Volunteers help us sort clothing, package diapers, fill orders for our families, and more! Projects are based on donations and the high needs of the families we serve on a weekly basis.

  • Once we confirm your volunteer session, we will need each person’s first/last name and email address so that we can issue guest passes to access the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

Why make a financial investment in Little Essentials?

We help the most underserved NYC communities, where poverty has a disproportionate effect on BIPOC individuals and families. Our holistic programming helps the whole person, addressing urgent challenges while creating long-term independence and dismantling poverty. Your investment will make an immediate, tangible impact on our programming and our future.

How do I make a financial investment?

  • You will receive a Quickbooks invoice based on your group size and a link to send payment once we receive your survey response.

  • If your organization has an online portal or another method of making corporate contributions to nonprofits, you can share that information in the survey.

  • Your payment will be categorized as a corporate contribution (charitable donation).

  •  A 3% transaction fee will be added to your invoice to cover any credit card processing fees.

  • You will receive a tax receipt once your donation has been processed.

  • Payments are due at least two weeks in advance of the session. If payment is not received, the session will be canceled.

Your tax-deductible corporate investment will help us meet the goals of our strategic five-year plan and the fulfillment of our mission:

  • Help us to serve 5,000+ NYC children per year, for a total of 62,000 children by 2024.

  • Enable us to distribute 2,500,000 diapers by 2025.

  • Contribute to the opening of a second warehouse in NYC in 2026.

  • Make it possible for us to compensate our dedicated staff,  employ community members at both warehouse locations, and hire a full-time GED prep instructor for our free educational workshop program, offering 60 life skills, maternal health, and childcare workshops every year.

  • Cover the cost of leasing and maintaining the warehouse to receive, prepare, and distribute items.

  • Grow to meet the increased demand for essential goods, life-changing educational opportunities, and employment that will help NYC families break the cycle of poverty.
