Little Essentials offers at-risk families living in poverty urgently needed children’s supplies and parenting education to promote the health, well-being, and safety of their children ages 0-5.
Our founder, Sandie Trombert, was a new parent when she identified a way to help families living in poverty by soliciting parents in her neighborhood to donate the items their young children had so quickly outgrown. She launched Little Essentials as a non-profit in 2011 to create a circle of giving that supports families in need.
We donate urgently needed children’s supplies and offer educational workshops through a network of shelters, social service agencies and community organizations serving NYC families living in poverty.
We support and empower vulnerable NYC individuals by putting them on the path towards self-sufficiency through our series of free educational programs including GED, financial literacy, maternal health, child health and development and more.

We accept new and gently used children’s items at our warehouse in the Brooklyn Navy Yard to support NYC families that need them most.
VOLUNTEER
Our volunteers are at the heart of our organization. We welcome individuals and corporate groups to help sort children’s items at our warehouse and with other tasks including social media, design support, fundraising and more.
